ASSISTANT INSURANCE UNDERWRITER

We are a captive operations manager and risk management services company seeking an Assistant Insurance Underwriter for medical professional liability. Your focus will be on the collection and review of materials used in the underwriting process; rating and determination of premium; customer service; policy administration; and related administrative duties. 

We are a Chicago-based firm offering a competitive salary with an excellent benefits package including medical, dental, life insurance, STD/LTD, 401(k) and tuition reimbursement.  Convenient location near O’Hare Airport.  Accessible via CTA Blue-Line train.

Responsibilities:

  • Distribute application packets and follow up with applicants to ensure submissions are complete
  • Process requests for loss information
  • Perform the entry of information from the applications into the rating program
  • Accurately enter policyholder information into the policy administration system and prepare reports from the same
  • Issue quotations and coverage documents
  • Prepare IL Surplus Lines Association submissions when necessary
  • Assemble, maintain, and periodically audit underwriting files
  • Invoice insurance premiums and track receivables
  • Maintain team relationships with Claims, Risk, and Finance to best serve the needs of our clients
  • General administrative duties as required

Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years’ experience in the insurance industry, preferably in physician professional liability
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, with an emphasis on Excel
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Education / Licensing Requirements:

  • Bachelors’ Degree or equivalent related work experience
  • Successful completion of INTRO to Insurance Course; additional Casualty Underwriting courses, a plus
  • Illinois insurance producer license encouraged but not required at time of hire

ACCOUNTANT

Major Duties:

    • Work with CFO to compile, review, analyze, reconcile, and interpret financial information from various sources and prepare working papers and internal, statutory and GAAP basis company financial statements and supplementary schedules for various captive insurance companies
    • May reconcile assigned company investment and cash accounts, as well as basic general ledger account reconciliations; provide Chief Financial Officer with support in preparing schedules and research/analysis for more difficult account reconciliations
    • May review or determine general ledger account, department and allocation coding for invoices, check requests, and travel expense reimbursements
    • May enter data into accounts payable software or give payment request documentation to Accounting Technician to enter into software
    • May audit requests for return premium and commission adjustment payments and various day-to-day activities for owned agency; submit payment requests to manager for approval of payment; may notify company personnel of missing endorsements or other discrepancies between agency billing system and insurance company processed activity
    • Responds to inquiries and answers questions from internal, external or insurance department auditors regarding financial transactions, balances and procedures
    • Performs special projects or related duties as assigned or as situation dictates

Qualifications:

    • Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field equivalent
    • One (1) year related work experience preferred
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Ability to compile, analyze and communicate financial information, meet deadlines, identify and solve problems, and organize workflow
    • Excellent verbal and written communication
    • Proficiency in personal computer and related software
