The Clarity Group Healthcare Newsletter
 Fall, 2019

Dear Friends & Colleagues,

Welcome to the latest edition of The Clarity Post™. We hope you're enjoying a lovely fall, or even bracing yourself for early signs of winter like we are here in Chicago.

There's something about this season that makes you reminisce, put on your favorite films, and think back on the year that was, while setting your sights on the year to come. In keeping with that, we wanted to share some of our greatest hits, as it were, from a wonderful 2019. Please read on for a taste of our latest patient safety reports; our first ever Open Forums on Patient Safety; our new Flex-Fit™ reporting solution for providers of every type; and an opportunity to sign up for an upcoming webinar that we’re supporting with the folks over at Patient Safety & Quality Healthcare.

As always we remain committed to servicing our many hundreds of provider-clients in the name of risk management and patient safety, while also publishing numerous resources and educational content relevant to the real and emerging risk, quality, and safety issues facing all healthcare providers today. We appreciate you spending some time with us, and we hope you find this latest edition helpful and informative.

Regards,

Tom Piotrowski, RN, MSN, CSSGB

OPEN FORUMS ON PATIENT SAFETY AND RISK MANAGEMENT BY PROVIDER TYPE

Back in June we hosted the first two webinars in our ongoing series of open forums focused on the patient safety and risk management issues unique to specific provider types. As a leading provider of systems and software for healthcare incident reporting and risk management, we have a large number of FQHC and Critical Access Hospital client-providers, and as always our mission is to empower them and all healthcare providers to manage risk, quality, and safety across their healthcare systems and "wherever patients are." We've uploaded the first two webinars to our provider-specific resource centers, which you can find at the links below. Stay tuned for more webinars in the coming year.

Healthcare News & Notes

CAN OWNING A DOG (OR A CAT!) REALLY HELP YOU LIVE LONGER?

In a recently published report from the American Heart Association Journal 'Circulation,' researchers looked at decades of studies from the 1950s to the present that focused on the relationship between dog ownership and survival rate. In the aggregate, "dog ownership was associated with a 24% risk reduction for all-cause mortality as compared to nonownership."

Now, as this article from the Washington Post's Christopher Ingraham points out, the report doesn't look at any confounding factors, such as the relationship between affluence and pet ownership. What we do know is what most people who own a pet could already tell you (myself included), which is that owning a pet is good for companionship and stress relief, and walking a pet regularly is a great way to get some daily exercise!
