Who We Are
Rick is a senior executive with 35 years professional experience within the insurance and healthcare industries. Prior to co-founding Clarity Group, Inc., he was the Chairman and CEO of MMI Companies, Inc. from 1985 until the company was sold to The St. Paul Companies in 2000. Rick grew MMI from a small medical malpractice insurance company successor of two (2) offshore mutual insurance companies to a publicly traded organization that ranked in the top 10 US medical malpractice underwriters in 1999. Prior to MMI, Rick was President and CEO of Ideal Mutual, and was President and CEO of McDonough Caperton Employee Benefits, Inc. He also served as State Compensation Commissioner for the State of West Virginia and practiced law in Pennsylvania. Rick holds a Bachelor's Degree in Finance and a Juris Doctor from West Virginia University.
Anna is a senior executive with 35 years professional experience within the healthcare and insurance industries. Prior to co-founding Clarity Group, Inc., she was President of the Healthcare Risk Services Group (HRSG) and Executive Vice President of MMI Companies, Inc. (MMI). From 1985 until MMI was sold to The St. Paul Companies in 2000, Anna established and led the Healthcare Risk Management efforts of MMI that focused on engineering medical risk exposure through education, consultation and clinical data benchmarking services. Prior to joining MMI, she worked in hospital and academic settings. Anna is a certified Medical Technologist and holds a Master's Degree in Health Professions Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a Certificate in E-Business from Lewis University, Graduate School of Management.
Joe is a senior finance executive with more than 30 years professional experience in the management of insurance company operations and statutory financial statement preparation. Prior to joining Clarity Group, Inc., Joe was Senior Vice President and Controller of MMI Companies, Inc. (MMI) where he led the statutory and GAAP accounting functions, budgeting, cash management, income tax planning and treasury operations, as well as Securities and Exchange Commission reporting. Prior to MMI, he worked for Borg-Warner Acceptance Corporation, Fred S. James & Company and Allstate Insurance Company. Joe holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Southern Illinois University.
Debra (Debby) Weber is a seasoned Risk and Claims Manager with more than 15 years' experience in both large and community based healthcare settings. Prior to joining Clarity, Debby held senior risk management positions with Centegra Health System and Evanston Northwestern Hospital in Illinois, and with the University of California San Diego Medical Center and Sharp Healthcare in San Diego, California. Before Debby moved into the Healthcare Risk and Claims Management, she worked extensively in various healthcare settings where she gained clinical experience in medical-surgical nursing, intensive care and emergency medicine. She holds her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northern Illinois University and her Masters in Nursing from University of California, Los Angeles. She received her Juris Doctor from the California Western School of Law in San Diego and is a Member of the Illinois Bar.
Tom is a healthcare professional with more than 15 years' experience in clinical areas and healthcare operations in academic medical centers and community based settings. He has led a wide array of initiatives including patient safety and error reporting, EHR implementation and quality improvement projects. Tom has held clinical manager positions in Neurosciences and Orthopedics at several Chicagoland facilities including Loyola University Medical Center and Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He received his BSN and MSN from Loyola University in Chicago where his graduate work concentrated on Clinical Informatics. In addition, he has attained his certification in Six Sigma Green Belt through the American Society of Quality.
Heather has 20 years' experience in the healthcare industry and over 10 years in risk management. Her clinical experience was primarily focused on pediatrics and emergency nursing and she has many years of management experience in both the emergency department and risk management. Heather received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and a Masters of Business Administration from DePaul University. She is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) and an experienced presenter on risk, quality and safety topics. She is also a member of the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM) and the Chicagoland Healthcare Risk Management Society (CHRMS).
